CentralAsia (CA) – Over the past day, 304,626 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the world, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, which is a record number since the beginning of the pandemic.
The previous record was set on August 14, when 304,351 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 within 24 hours.
In total, 26,739,782 people were infected worldwide. The most infected – 6.2 million – are in the United States. In second place is Brazil (4.09 million), in third – India (4.02 million), in fourth – Russia (1.02 million according to the federal operational headquarters) and in fifth – Peru (676.8 thousand).
After infection with the virus, 876 938 people died in the world, of which 188.5 thousand were in the United States, 125.5 thousand – in Brazil, 69.5 thousand – in India, 66.8 thousand – in Mexico and 41, 6 thousand in the UK. Russia is in 12th place in world statistics in terms of the number of deaths.
Also, over the past day in the world, according to the university, 5637 people have died. For this indicator, the record was set on August 14, when 10,135 people died.
In August, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus, said that humanity could defeat the coronavirus pandemic in less than two years. These terms will be more realistic if the countries show solidarity and unite, the director of the organization said.
